I am impressed that the Obamas work so well together but I am starting to remember that FDR and Eleanor worked together and yet Eleanor was also able to be her own woman. I am not addressing her personal life but her political independence, her willingness to be even more progressive than her husband would allow if he had had the power to keep Eleanor in her place.
So my question is this. Is Michelle Obama more progressive than her eloquent husband and if so will she ever take an independent progressive initiative that her husband might not embrace?

CONFRONT THE PATRIARCHS FROM BEIJING TO SAUDI, FROM NEW YORK CITY TO LOS ANGELES!
The history of the struggles for human liberation show that if women are not liberated then the rest of us will not be liberated either. Look at reactionaries throughout the world. They always put women down and they always seek to enslave women as a subordinate caste whatever class they are in.
The recent mammogram guidelines in the United States remind us that women are also a principle target, along with all working people and small businesses. Slashing health care for women is one way the capitalists hope to put the crisis on the backs of women by further rationalizing the denial of health care.
Of course the whole middle class in the United States has been and is being proletarianized or converted into wage workers, wage slaves. Women are to be especially targeted as the repressive changes in the economy and society at large continue. The big bourgeoisie will do anything to maintain their criminal and lethal rule, a rule that will not only impoverish humanity, and oppress women more than ever but also potentially destroy civilization and the human race as we know it. So they hope to go after women as they
change the "Big Lie".
Remember the "Big Lie" that educated people would all become prosperous professionals? It hasn't happened and as women now outnumber men in educational institutions they are a particular target of the new "Big Lie" which is, "You must accept the role of kitchen slave once again to support your man and raise a family, don't expect so much, go to church. No job for you, lady!
Of course women in Europe seem to have never gotten out of the kitchen. Am I wrong?
And look at what has happened in China and the Islamic world. Women are being superexploited, persecuted, aborted and stoned so that men can treat them as slaves.
Yes, patriarchy is a pillar of worldwide reaction on all continents and at sea.
Women must rebel against patriarchal reaction. Then, in alliance with the whole working class they can work for a new, just and sustainable society.
